Mathematics

Our Approach

At Twyford C of E School we provide all children with a mathematics curriculum that is aspirational, enabling and inclusive whilst ensuring that all children, by the end of Key Stage 2, become confident, capable mathematicians. We aim for our pupils to leave their primary education with a secure and flexible understanding of mathematics.

It is our intention that children at our school will possess a positive mindset surrounding their maths capabilities, that their mathematical thinking will be challenged so they gain a deep understanding of the concepts they are learning and understand the role mathematics plays in our society as set out in the 2014 National Curriculum

“Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.”

The National Curriculum in England

At Twyford C of E Primary School, we deliver an ambitious, sequential maths curriculum using the Maths Mastery approach. This research-based approach ensures pupils acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of mathematics.

Additionally, our children have access to Times Tables Rockstars, an online resource to help develop fluency in times tables. Number Sense Maths is also used in school to aid children’s fluency in mathematics alongside Mastery in Number for Reception and Key Stage One.
