Mathematics

Our Approach

At Twyford C of E School we provide all children with opportunities to become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics so that they can reason mathematically and solve problems by applying their Mathematics, as set out in the 2014 National Curriculum.

"Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject."

The National Curriculum in England

We have adopted the mastery approach to teaching mathematics and use the small steps outlined by the White Rose Maths scheme, as well as our own calculation progression document, to ensure concepts, skills and knowledge are developed systematically.

Additionally, our children have access to Times Tables Rockstars, an online resource to help develop fluency in times tables.

Our ambition at Twyford C of E School is for all children to achieve a secure and deep understanding of maths. We strive to ensure children reach their full potential, leave the school being numerate and have a love for number, tackling maths with confidence as it is a skill for life.
